'Do not ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.'
What goes around, comes around. That is the conventional wisdom that describes how the mechanism of nature works, when it comes to cause and effect, functionally coordinating and relating to all the things in its domain.
In Buddhism, they call it 'Karma'. In some religions, it is God's will.
Lately, the scientists have termed it the “Butterfly Effect”. A very, very small action or happening somewhere in this world could cause it's ripples and ramifications that will again lead to some functionally related happening somewhere else in this world. And so it will go on, never to stop effecting those who are meant to be effected, as they deserve, in a given time and space.
Whatever the happening is, understanding, compassion, loving kindness, and actions out of good will are the gifts of God to us, to apply to the situation, to make this place called earth a fine place for everybody, worth living a while longer before they leave it again for a destination unknown.
These days are extraordinary, in a negative sense. Last year, in Australia, wildfire broke out spreading around almost the whole of the country(continent), in a magnitude never seen before in the recorded history. According to the news, the affected area was about 6 million square kilometers. Twelve people were dead, 7 people went missing and about half a billion of the wildlife population was gone due to the fire. A prehistoric patch of forest area was burnt out. They started calling it the ‘Australian Apocalypse’. Australian people asked the international community for help and donations. The photos down below said it all.
Australia is a giant island, in the Pacific Ocean. It is in the middle of nowhere. Just several days before this big happening, we came across the news online that the country was alarmingly running out of inland fresh water. We thought it was strange, given it was Australia. Then the apocalyptic wildfire. Those two events may be related in some way, somewhere, we didn't know. We needed to listen to Nature's voice because ‘that was the lesson’.
A more serious issue for the global community was the case of Iran. They vowed revenge on the US for the death of their superstar major general. In terms of human casualties, the conflict (US-Iran) has been much, much worse than the Australian natural disaster and it would be getting worse we guessed. Most critics on the issue were of the opinion that both Iran and the US didn't really have a gut to go into an all-out war, and they would seek ways to avoid that. And they did. After Iran's 'a missile for a missile' revenge on a regional U.S military base.
After those two events, Covid-19 was still ravaging the world, playing the tactic of feigned retreats to come back again and again, stronger in the form of new strains. And also, as an interlude, the recent coup in our country, Myanmar. The political unrest and the fighting is still going on. Most recently after that, Israel and Hezbollah began a rocket war.
The point is, the Middle East has been a playground of the superpowers. It seems the middle-easterners have adopted different ideas. These days are different. Imagine the enormous cash flow from China to the region, under the security arrangements and influence of Russia from afar. Can't the middle East be more stable and more prosperous than under the current orders and situations? Maybe that is an alternative and a probability the key players in the region are thinking of.
We don't know what the reality is, for it is too complex to figure out. If it is so, things could get more serious than they seem now, because that will be reshaping the history of the Middle East into a new version. Alarmingly, now Iran is hinting that it will side with the Hezbollah.
What happened in Australia, Iran, and what is happening with the ongoing situations in our country (and the Middle East) will affect the rest of the people world (the entire global population, still under the thumb of Covid).
… Those bells are tolling for us all.
