“Burmese art is no great art, but it is so charming.” (This is a quote from a book on Burma.)
Our country, Myanmar, was formerly known as Burma. We are an art loving people. And I, ever since my university years, in my free times and holidays, would be doing all things art. Maybe visiting the old cities where ancient architectural sites were, pagodas, monasteries, old buildings, etc. Sometimes going to the riverside to doing nothing but sit at a quiet shop and watch the scenes. Sometimes to visit the art galleries.
My friend Aung Chun is an art collector. He is crazy about that. The following is a painting that is hanging on the interior wall of his building. The interior walls of his buildings are filled with art. The picture was rather like a photograph. Such scenes are so common in our country.
We are a land of pagodas, they are everywhere. Some of them are on hilltops.
There will be always a concrete ladder, leading up to a pagoda on the top of a little hill. At the foot of the ladder will be always two lions as we can see in the painting. They are the guards. This is our traditional architectural style since ancient times and somewhere at the foot of the hill, there will always be a quiet and wide monastery compound.
Novices are children. They learn Buddhist literatures. They will play around and will go about places nearby and will become monks after reaching the age of 18.
When my country is peaceful again, I will go about places and will be a photographer, to share such scenes with my friends around the world.
